Toasting Mother Earth
“Toasting Mother Earth” is a concert displaying the talents of composers and poets who all broach new ground in their artistic genres, and all express deep emotional connection to the world around us. From the precocious and short-lived talent of Lili Boulanger to the eccentric pieces of Tim Hansen, this concert addresses the human concerns of death, life, and persistence, against the monumental backdrop of the world premiere of the work by Ross Fiddes and Derek Dowding, “Toasting Mother Earth”, which is both an anthem of praise and a warning of destruction. Soprano Anna Fraser brings her wealth of experience to the interpretation of this range of fascinating music, with some of the pieces specially written with her voice in mind, and the accompaniment is provided by Michael Bell on piano.
