‘Wings’ Exhibition
Carla Jackett is a Shoalhaven artist working in clay and paint and is also a passionate birder. She and her partner have protected their mountain forest through a Voluntary Conservation Agreement where Carla has recorded over 115 bird species to date. The Aussie bush, coastal estuaries, and remote deserts provide Jackett with endless material and inspiration for her work. Newly discovered “Wild clay” dug from her backyard will be incorporated into some of her small sculptural works, adding texture and colour variation. Her ceramics will include hand built abstracted open vessels created from stretched and manipulated slabs often heavily textured, small sculptural forms, and a wall installation made up of multiple stylized birds representing migration and flight. Surface treatment is in the form of coloured oxides, including ochres Carla has collected from her Outback travels. She uses underglazes and dry to matte glazes which are brushed or sprayed on to each piece. Glazes are made from scratch and works are fired in her gas kiln.
Coloured clay slip monoprints will be a new area of exploration for Jackett and she will include a small number of these works in her exhibition.
